The building directory
A directory of the building is posted for the convenience of the public. It is provided as is. So is the building.
The Bureau occupies one building: a hundred floors above the Lobby and nine below it. The building directory lists every one of them, from the bottom of the basement to the top, each with its department and a line about it.
Most of those floors cannot be visited. They are listed as a courtesy. The ones open to Applicants are shown as open, and the ones being built are shown as being furnished.
You can read the directory in two places:
- In the elevator, on the walls either side of the car. There it also shows how far along you are on each floor you have reached.
- On its own page, linked from the foot of the front page. Anybody can read that one, signed in or not, so it is a fair thing to send to somebody who asks what the building is.
The directory explains nothing about what happens on a floor. It is accurate in places.
New floors are built from time to time. When one is, the directory notes it as open, and its button in the elevator lights for anybody who has cleared the floor before it.
