Leave no trace
The Bureau says
Applicants who prefer not to be noticed may say so. The Bureau will continue to notice them. Other Applicants will not.
In plain language
Other Applicants are sometimes told who was last to do something, by number or alias, and some things you leave in the building carry your number. Leave no trace, a switch on your Account settings page, turns that off.
With it on:
- you are never the one named when somebody is told who was last there;
- any traces of you already in the building are wiped when you switch it on;
- things you leave for others, or lose, do not carry your number;
- things sent from one Applicant to another neither carry your number nor reach you;
- on the Bureau's Discord, you are posted as "An Applicant".
You still see everybody else's traces.
It does not hide you entirely. Your number, alias and rank are still on the Registry boards, on the sign-in sheet and on your profile.
You can switch it off again at any time, and you will leave traces again from then on.
See Traces.
