The Bureau says

Applicants may require a second proof of identity at the door. The Bureau recommends it, without explaining why.

In plain language

From Account settings, open Password and two-factor. That page changes your password and lets you protect your file with more than a password.

Two-factor authentication asks for a six-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone each time you log in. To turn it on:

  1. Press Turn on two-factor and confirm your password.
  2. Scan the code shown with your authenticator app, or type the key into it.
  3. Enter the six digits the app shows and press Confirm.
  4. Keep the recovery codes somewhere that is not your phone. Each works once, if you lose the phone.

On the same page you can show your recovery codes again, make new ones, or turn two-factor off.

Passkeys let you log in with your fingerprint, your face or your device's own lock, and no password. Add one on the same page. Each passkey is listed with when it was added and last used, and can be removed there.

Nobody at the Bureau can read your password, and the Bureau will not ask you for it.
