Ranks and grades
Applicants are graded on the Schedule of Loitering Grades according to certificates earned. Promotion is automatic. Demotion is not provided for.
Your rank is a title on a scale of fifty grades, starting at Provisional Loiterer. It rises with the certificates you earn and never falls. Certificates issued by staff do not count toward it.
When you are promoted, a slip arrives in the room with your new rank and the Bureau's line for it. Tap the slip, or the rank on Your File, to open the Schedule of Loitering Grades. It names your rank and every rank below it, and names the next one, so you know what you are waiting for. The ranks beyond that are blacked out until you get near them.
Some grades unlock something:
- a stamp ink or a paper for your certificates, chosen at the top of the schedule page;
- a part for your ID photo;
- a small courtesy from the building.
Nothing a rank unlocks makes any certificate easier to earn. It is all looks and manners.
The scale is slow on purpose: a whole floor is worth about three grades. Your rank is shown beside your number on the Registry and on your profile, and on the Bureau's Discord if you link your account.
