Carrying, putting down and pockets
Articles may be removed from their place, carried, applied to other articles, or returned. The Bureau does not search pockets, yet.
Some things can be picked up. When you have one, a strip under the room names it: In hand. Tap or hold something else to use what you are carrying on it. Tapping and holding are different acts here too.
You carry one thing in hand, and you have three pockets.
- Pocket it puts what is in hand into a free pocket, if it is the kind of thing that goes in a pocket. Not everything does.
- Tap a full pocket to take its contents out. If your hand holds something that pockets, the two change places. A thing must be in hand to be used.
- Put down lets go of it. In the room it came from, it goes back to its place. Anywhere else, a clerk you never see takes it back to where it belongs.
Your pockets come with you through every door and in the elevator. So does a thing in hand, if it would fit in a pocket. Anything else is put back when you leave the room.
Putting a thing down never loses it. A few acts do send a thing away for good. You will know one when you do it.
You may also come across personal effects: things kept for good. They take no pocket, cannot be put down or lost, and are listed under the room and on Your File.
