Coming back later

The Bureau says

The building remains open in the Applicant's absence. It does not undertake to remain still.

In plain language

Your file is kept on the Bureau's server. When you come back, on any device, you are where you left off, carrying what you carried.

Most rooms stay as you left them. Not all of them do.

  • Some things run on the real clock, not on your taps. A thing set going may finish while you are elsewhere. Come back and look.
  • Some rooms rearrange themselves while you are away.
  • Some things go by the hour of the day or the day of the week, by the Bureau's own time, which is Eastern time in the United States. It may not be your time.
  • Some things happen once a day.

So a room with nothing more to say today may have something tomorrow. That is why a floor lasts about a week of short visits. Ten minutes a day is plenty, and nothing is charged for being away.

If you have the room open in two places, such as a phone and a computer, the newest one is the one that counts. The older page reloads itself when you next touch it.
